Site inspections offer you the opportunity to identify health and safety performance within your workplace and in doing so also enable you to identify hazards and assess risks.

Ryder Safety will interact with your management and workforce during these inspections using coaching skills in an effort to improve your employees and sub-contractors’ ethos towards health and safety

We carry out workplace inspections in a wide range of working environments which include the utilities, power, construction, rail, oil, gas and chemical industries.  The frequency of these visits will be chosen by you.

The purpose of health and safety auditing is to verify the existence and effectiveness of internal controls intended to manage health and safety risks and comply with the company’s health and safety policy and commitment.

Larger public and private sector organisations should have formal procedures for auditing and reporting health and safety performance.

Companies should ensure that any audit is perceived as a positive management and boardroom tool and it should have unrestricted access to both internal and external auditors

Ryder Safety will assist your company in becoming compliant with health and safety standards including Lloyds, BS ISO 45001 and CHAS.

Being compliant with these accreditations demonstrates to your clients and customers that you can deliver your services consistently and to a good quality.

In any business or organisation, things do not always go to plan.  Findings from our investigations can form the basis of action to prevent the accident or incident reoccurring and improve your overall risk management.  This will also point out to areas of your risk assessments and safety management procedures which need to be reviewed.

Incident investigations form an essential part of your company’s monitoring process which you are required to carry out by law.  Incident investigations, including near miss reporting, can tell you how things actually are in reality.

Investigating incidents, near misses and reported cases of occupational ill health will help you uncover and correct any breaches in health and safety legal compliance you may have been unaware of.

The fact that we investigated an incident with a detailed report and took remedial action to prevent further occurrences will help demonstrate to a court that you company has a positive attitude to health and safety.

Our investigation findings will also provide essential information to your insurers in the event of a claim.

An investigation can also identify the following: –

  • Why existing control measures failed and what improvements are required
  • Provide a true snapshot of what really happened. Procedures may not be followed by your management team or workforce.  You need to be aware of this
  • Improve the management of risk in the future
  • Help other parts of your organisation learn
  • Demonstrate your commitment to effective health and safety which will improve employee’s morale and improve your health and safety culture

Investigating near misses and incidents were no one has been harmed is as useful as, and often easier than investigating an accident.

Ryder Safety has the experience in producing detailed incident reports that have satisfied investigations by the Health and Safety Executive.

A Site wide Survey is a broad term used to describe the planning phase of a project.  The survey identifies a range of factors about the project and sets the foundations for both Health and Safety Plans and Construction Phase Plans.  The survey would identify factors which include the following: –

  • Description of the use of the existing site area
  • Surrounding land use
  • Existing services
  • Timescales
  • Traffic systems
  • Security requirements
  • Emergency service access
  • Hazards which would be involved within the project such as lifting operations, confined space entry and hot works etc
  • Requirement of welfare facilities
  • Special requirements such as client’s induction, work permits and specific training etc
